Understanding Your Girlfriend during PMS
You
truly love your girlfriend but you wonder what is wrong with her
sometimes. If you ask her, she only gets defensive about it. Are you
lost and confused? Well,
don’t be. It is nothing but pre menstrual syndrome (PMS) which every woman
goes through 7-10 days in advance before the onset of her menstruation.
Each girl is different and so are her symptoms, some get emotional,
others develop a voracious appetite or some have bouts of anger. Here
are some helpful pointers to keep in mind so that you can be sensitive
to her needs and sustain the love in your relationship.
1) Never Say The Word PMS:
All hell will break lose if you say, “Honey, you are suffering from
PMS.” It is a very touchy subjective so don’t say it loud. Assuming that
her behavior is strictly due to her hormones, it will discount the
possibility that her feelings are valid and will therefore only make her
angrier.
2) Keep Things Normal:
During these days, your girlfriend maybe moody or depressed or even
anxious. So avoid giving her unexpected surprises. Gifts and flowers are
okay but something like a life changing surprises should be handled
with care.
3) Keep Social Appearance Minimal:
The hormones also affect her body. She may feel bloated, sore and
uncomfortable. So don’t arrange get together or force her to go dancing.
It is best to ask her if she feels up to it rather than deciding it and
then dragging her along. She won’t be good company and make dampen your
spirit. Many women gain
weight during this time and if she is needed to dress up for some
important occasion, rest assured she will have a hard time deciding what
to wear. Understand her situation and be supportive.
4) Don’t Be Surprised:
Women love seeking out new varieties of comfort food during this time.
They consume a lot of carbohydrates like chips, chocolates, ice creams
and many more. Don’t raise your brows in alarm. If she complains of
weight gain, don’t list out the number of cream filled donuts she
gobbled; instead hold her hand take her out for a walk. Light exercising
during PMS helps to improve her mood and she will love you for your
understanding.
You
could be one of the lucky ones who escaped with only minor
inconveniences and slight adjustments during this time of each month.
But there is always a chance that some of you may end up with someone
who needs more care. But just remember, life is full of challenges and
adjusting a little bit for the one you love is not asking too much.
